Religious Violence in Takhar: One Ismaili Killed.
Local sources from Warsaj District of Takhar Province report that on the night of Wednesday, a man identified as Dadi Khuda Qorbani was shot dead by unidentified armed individuals in Anwi village, in the Qondoz area of Warsaj District.
According to the sources, the victim was a follower of the Ismaili faith. The incident comes despite repeated Taliban claims of having established nationwide security.
However, reports indicate a rise in targeted killings, armed murders, and violent robberies across various parts of the country.
At the same time, the Ismaili community in Afghanistan particularly in Badakhshan Province has faced increasing pressure and violations of religious rights in recent years.
Credible sources report that in some Ismaili-populated areas, the Taliban have intensified pressure to force religious conversion, shut down or convert Jamaatkhanas into mosques, and establish religious schools based on the Hanafi jurisprudential doctrine. In some cases, forced conversions have reportedly occurred.
According to these reports, a number of Ismailis in Badakhshan have been threatened or coerced into adopting Sunni Islam, while severe restrictions have been imposed on their religious and social freedoms.
This situation once again demonstrates that the Taliban’s emphasis on a narrow interpretation of religion and claims of security face serious challenges in practice.
Religious minorities in Afghanistan particularly the Ismailis continue to face significant pressure. Human rights organizations, media outlets, and the international community are urged to pay close attention to these developments and take effective measures to protect the rights of minorities.
