Salafi cleric killed in Badakhshan; body found in the sea five days later

Local sources in Badakhshan province say that the Taliban have arrested and then killed a Salafi cleric in the province.

According to the sources, the cleric was named “Mawlawi Khairullah” and was a resident of the Shuhada district of Badakhshan province. He was arrested by Taliban forces five days ago while he was planting flowers at his house.

Sources have confirmed that the body of Maulvi Khairullah was found on the shore of the river in the village of Rizwan Shuhada in the Shuhada district of Badakhshan on Tuesday (July 23). According to them, signs of torture were seen on his body.

Taliban officials have not yet reacted to the incident.

In recent years, there have been numerous reports of the arrest, torture and killing of Salafi scholars in various provinces of Afghanistan, including Kabul, Nangarhar, Kapisa and Faryab. Human rights sources have described these measures as part of a crackdown on religious figures critical of Taliban policies.
