The Taliban have announced that the main route of the Salang Highway has been temporarily closed due to ongoing reconstruction.
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesman for the group’s Ministry of Public Works, issued a press release on Saturday, 2025 May 24, urging drivers of passenger vehicles to use secondary routes.
The Salang Highway, which connects Kabul to the northern provinces, is one of the country’s most vital transit roads.
Despite repeated promises by the Taliban to fully reconstruct the route, its successive closures over the past three years have repeatedly caused confusion and inconvenience for travelers
