Sharp Reactions by Atmar and Nabil to Anwar-ul-Haq Ahadi’s Ethnic Rhetoric.
Former Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar and former security and political figure Rahmatullah Nabil have reacted to recent statements by Anwar-ul-Haq Ahadi.
They stated that Ahadi’s claim of representing “90 percent of the Afghan people” is more a political and party slogan than reality.
They emphasized that any form of ethnic or cultural supremacy is unacceptable and hateful.
They said ethnocentric policies not only undermine state legitimacy but also threaten national security and unity.
Atmar recalled that after years of war, destruction, and injustice, Afghans adopted a constitution in 1382 Solar Hijri (2004).
He said the constitution emphasizes equal rights for all citizens regardless of ethnicity or culture.
He described it as one of the most progressive constitutions in Afghanistan’s history.
Nabil warned that Afghanistan needs a new, citizen-centered social contract to overcome the current deadlock.
He said no ethnic group should have special priority in governing the country.
These positions come amid accusations against some Afghan media outlets of cooperating with the Taliban and the arrest of journalists.
The political environment in the country remains tense.
The reactions of former officials show that parts of the political and civil society continue to stress inclusive participation, citizens’ rights, and resistance to discriminatory policies.
