SIGAR: Humanitarian aid reaches Pashtuns, not real victims of crisis

The US Office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) has accused the Taliban of abuse and ethnic discrimination in the distribution of humanitarian aid in a new report.

According to the report, by blocking and redirecting international aid, the Taliban are trying to ensure that it reaches mainly Pashtun citizens and not non-Pashtuns. SIGAR says that these actions not only violate the principles of humanitarian neutrality, but also deepen ethnic divisions in Afghanistan.

The report also accuses the Taliban of using force to seize international aid shipments and use them for their own benefit. These accusations come at a time when millions of Afghan citizens are facing a severe humanitarian crisis and food shortages.
