Sources: Taliban Fail to Relocate Baghlan Provincial Capital From Pul-e Khumri to Baghlan-e Markazi.
Reliable sources report that a decision by one of the Taliban’s commissions to relocate the administrative center of Baghlan province from Pul-e Khumri city to Baghlan-e Markazi has failed.
According to sources, the commission attempted to carry out the relocation to serve ethnic, linguistic, and mafia-related interests, but was unsuccessful, and the final decision was made by another Taliban faction.
Sources say that internal Taliban disputes in Baghlan stem from the province’s ethnic composition. Baghlan-e Markazi is predominantly Pashtun-speaking, while Pul-e Khumri is largely Persian-speaking.
Reliable sources warn that relocating the provincial center to an area with a different ethnic majority could affect the economic and political interests of various communities and increase the risk of ethnic tensions.
They add that such internal rivalries and decisions based on tribal interests not only complicate local governance but also undermine the Taliban’s legitimacy and stability in provinces with diverse ethnic compositions.
Continued pursuit of such policies, sources caution, could lead to public dissatisfaction and heightened regional tensions.
