Strong Retaliation by the Taliban Following Last Night’s Attacks; Pakistani Military Facility in Islamabad Reportedly Struck.
The Taliban Ministry of Defense announced that its air units carried out a retaliatory operation in response to the attacks and casualties reported on the night of Monday, 16 March 2026.
According to the statement, at approximately 17:00 local time (Pakistan Standard Time, UTC+5) on Tuesday, 17 March 2026, an important Pakistani military installation known as the “Hamza” center, located in the Faizabad area in the heart of Islamabad, was targeted by unmanned aerial vehicles.
The ministry stated that key command sections and major facilities of the base were struck with precision during the operation.
It further emphasized that the attack allegedly inflicted heavy casualties on Pakistani forces and caused extensive financial damage.
The incident comes after Pakistan reportedly conducted heavy strikes late on the evening of Monday, 16 March 2026, against Taliban positions in several Afghan provinces, including Kabul.
Local sources said multiple Taliban weapons depots were targeted in those strikes and a number of the group’s fighters were killed or wounded — an event that, according to Taliban officials, has now been answered by the attack on a military center in Islamabad.
