Tajik border forces clash with drug smugglers on the Afghan border

The National Security Committee of Tajikistan announced that two members of the group were killed last night following an armed clash with a group of smugglers near the Afghan border.

According to the report, the smugglers, who were planning to transport about 58 kilograms of drugs from Afghanistan to Tajikistan, ignored the warning of the border forces and opened fire.

Following the response of the security forces, the leader of the gang and one of his men were killed, and two others fled into Afghanistan.

Tajik officials said that the leader of the group was “Azar Khan”, a 50-year-old resident of Badakhshan province in Afghanistan, and that his group had entered Tajikistan illegally.

Some weapons and ammunition were also discovered and confiscated at the scene of the clash.

The National Security Committee of Tajikistan has called on residents of border areas to cooperate with security forces to identify and prevent the passage of armed groups.
