Tajikistan warns Taliban to stop gold mining on border.

Tajikistan has warned the Taliban to stop mining a gold mine in the border strip.

A newly released video on social media shows a Tajik border commander on a phone call with Taliban officials, warning that Tajikistan will take action if mining does not stop.

The Tajik commander said that miners in the Avyaz area of Shahr-e-Buzurg district of Badakhshan province have entered Tajik territory about 200 meters and that the Taliban have not taken any action against this border violation.

According to him, gold mining companies are operating in an area that Tajikistan claims is within its territory.

Local sources have also confirmed that the Taliban, by participating in the mining project, have not yet responded to Tajikistan’s warnings.

According to these sources, there is a possibility of conflict between Taliban and Tajik border forces, and such tensions have occurred on this part of the border before.
