Local sources in Badakhshan say that Taliban intelligence forces arrested Uzbek social activist Imdad-ul-Haq Tural yesterday in the Argoy district of the province.
According to the sources, the social activist was targeted for his civic activities related to the Uzbek community and was detained by the Taliban without providing an official warrant or a clear explanation.
Mr. Tural’s arrest comes as Taliban pressure on ethnic minorities and social activists in northeastern Afghanistan has increased.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the reason for the arrest or the current status of the social activist. At the same time, concerns have been raised about an increase in targeted repression in the province.
