Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid expressed hope in an interview with Kyodo News that Japan would also recognize the group’s government.

Criticizing America’s “war” policies, he called on Washington to release frozen Afghan assets to pave the way for improved relations between the two countries.

Mujahid said in the interview that the Taliban are seeking strong relations with the United States and other countries and expect their “legitimacy as an interim government” to be accepted.

In response to international criticism of the ban on girls’ education and women’s work, he called these restrictions an “internal matter” and called on the international community to “not interfere.”

These statements come at a time when the United States, Japan, and most European countries have not yet recognized the Taliban’s rule.

Widespread human rights violations, the suspension of girls’ education, and severe restrictions on women’s work have been cited as the main preconditions for the international community to accept the Taliban.
