Taliban claim: Moscow recognizes the Taliban government

The Taliban Foreign Ministry has announced that Dmitry Zhirnov, the Russian ambassador to Kabul, announced Moscow’s recognition of the Taliban government in a meeting with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting minister of the ministry.

The meeting was held in Kabul on Thursday, July 1, and according to the Taliban, Zhirnov called this action “a historic step” in strengthening relations between the two sides.

In this meeting, Amir Khan Muttaqi also described Russia’s decision as “realistic and transformative” and said that this step could pave the way for expanding bilateral cooperation between Kabul and Moscow.

Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry has also told the TASS news agency that Moscow has officially recognized the Taliban government.

At the same time, the flag of the Republic of Afghanistan has been lowered from the embassy in Moscow and the Taliban flag has been raised.

These developments are taking place while Gul Hassan Hassan, the Taliban’s designated ambassador to Moscow, has officially begun his work.
