Taliban closes Hekmatyar’s Hezb-e-Islami offices.
Sources say the Taliban government has ordered the closure of all offices of Hezb-e-Islami led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.
According to the source, Taliban forces have taken away all equipment and documents after closing the party’s offices.
The Taliban have also warned party members and staff that continuing any political activity under the party’s name will have legal consequences.
This decision was made at a time when relations between Hekmatyar and the Taliban have deteriorated sharply in recent months.
In his speeches, Hekmatyar had repeatedly criticized the Taliban’s performance in governance and political restrictions.
The Taliban’s latest move seems to indicate the group’s increasing pressure on independent political movements in the country;
A move that could be a sign of the narrowing of the political space and the gradual elimination of opposition voices inside Afghanistan.
