Taliban Counterstrike After Kandahar Bombing; South Waziristan Reportedly in Security Shock.
The Taliban Ministry of Defense has announced that it carried out a drone strike on a Pakistani military installation in the Wana area of South Waziristan, describing it as a direct response to Pakistan’s air bombardments the previous night in Kandahar Province.
The statement, released on Sunday, 15 March 2026, corresponding to 24 Hoot 1404 in the Afghan solar calendar, indicates an escalation in security tensions between the two sides.
According to the communiqué, a facility belonging to the Pakistani Special Services Group (SSG) commandos and several other military installations were targeted, allegedly causing significant human and material losses to Pakistani forces.
However, Pakistani officials have not yet commented on these claims, and no independent details have been released.
Meanwhile, Pakistan reportedly conducted fresh air strikes overnight in areas of Kandahar Province. Taliban representatives said that a drug rehabilitation center and an empty container were damaged in those attacks and that no casualties were reported — an incident that has heightened concerns about a potential widening of hostilities in border regions.
