Taliban Intelligence in Kunduz Detain Female Journalist in Violation of Islamic Law.

Local sources in Kunduz province report that Nazara Rashidi, a female journalist, has been detained by Taliban intelligence forces for the past four days.

According to these sources, Rashidi was arrested on Tuesday, 7 January 2026, around 8:00 a.m., after receiving a phone call and while leaving her home.

The sources emphasize that her physical condition at the time of detention was not good and express serious concern for her health.

Sources say that Nazara Rashidi had previously been threatened multiple times by unidentified individuals to cease her journalistic activities.

Following her detention, the Taliban command reportedly showed her family or close associates only a single photograph in which her hands and feet were bound with chains.

Human rights organizations and journalist protection groups have been urged to take immediate action to secure her release and ensure her safety.

This detention occurs in a context where, since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, working conditions for journalists especially women have been severely restricted.

Over the past four years, many journalists have fled the country due to threats, pressure, and fear of Taliban retaliation.

Concerns about journalist safety have intensified following statements by Mohammad Omar Makhlis, former Taliban commander in Paktia province, who admitted months ago in a gathering that the Taliban had intended to kill journalists, but many managed to escape.
