Local sources in Khwaja Du Koh district, Jawzjan province, report that the Taliban pulled a former commander of Marshal Dostum, named Yousuf Qomandan, from a relative’s wedding ceremony and shot him in the head, killing him.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, January 7, 2026, and has caused widespread concern among local residents.

Sources indicate that Yousuf Qomandan had previously been released from Taliban custody and had returned to Afghanistan from Iran.

Local reports stress that even after his release, he remained under constant threat from the Taliban, and his security was severely at risk.

This is not the first time the Taliban have targeted former commanders of the National Movement party.

Previously, in Shiberghan city, the Taliban had attacked Sher Qomandan, another former commander, who survived the assault.

These events have heightened concerns about the security of former leaders and political activists in northern Afghanistan.
