Taliban raid on Nili Bazaar; dozens of shopkeepers were arrested and beaten.
Local sources say that Taliban forces raided Nili Bazaar, arresting at least 47 shopkeepers and ordinary citizens and severely beating a number of them.
Most of the detainees are elderly, and the fate of many of them is still unknown.
According to sources, the incident occurred after Taliban “Amr Beh Maruf” agents arrested several shopkeepers on Wednesday (2025 August 6) on charges of cutting their beards.
During this action, the beating of an old shoemaker in front of the public angered the marketers and caused the agents to flee.
A day later, on the orders of the governor and the Taliban’s intelligence chief, security forces surrounded the market on all sides and entered it and arrested dozens of people, including Haji Taj Mohammad, 72, Haji Rasuli, Haji Sufi, Haji Haidar, Haji Nemat, and Ahmad Karbalai.
Witnesses say that many of these people were punched and kicked at the moment of arrest.
Sources emphasize that the detainees are being tortured and mistreated in the Taliban detention center.
The Ulema Council has been trying to get them released, but the Taliban governor has said the men have “rebelled against Islamic law” and should be punished.
