Taliban restrictions on the use of Persian in official correspondence of the Ministry of Interior.
Sources from the Taliban Ministry of Interior Affairs have confirmed that according to the new order of the ministry, administrative correspondence will be conducted only in Pashto, with the exception of three provinces.
In an official document issued with the signature of Mohammad Salem Ebrat, the head of the Taliban Ministry of Interior’s General Inspectorate, the employees of this institution have been instructed to prepare all letters, reports and official documents only in Pashto.
This decision includes all provinces except Badakhshan, Panjshir and Bamyan, which have been declared as Dari-speaking provinces.
According to this order, the employees of the inspection department are required to take the necessary measures to implement it within 48 hours. Some employees of the Ministry of Interior have said that this decision could lead to the dismissal of those who are not fluent in Pashto.
This is while before, during the republican era, official correspondence in government departments was mainly conducted in both official languages of the country, Persian and Pashto.
The Taliban Ministry of Interior has not yet officially commented on this decision.
According to the 1382 constitution, Persian (Dari) and Pashto are recognized as the official languages of Afghanistan. However, after taking power, the Taliban have restricted the use of Persian in some institutions.
