Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, in his latest remarks, attempted to justify the group’s controversial “regulation.”

According to critics, this document turns the people of Afghanistan into hostages of a repressive military system and, by institutionalizing modern slavery, threatens any citizen who shows even the slightest opposition to the Taliban with arrest, imprisonment, and complete elimination.

The regulation legalizes harsh punishments, severe restrictions, and total surveillance over people’s lives, and labels protest or free expression of opinion as “rebellion.”

In an interview with Deutsche Welle, Mujahid claimed that the law was drafted “to prevent others from misusing Islam” and asserted that no one has the right to abandon their religion.

In practice, however, field reports from Badakhshan and other provinces show that the Taliban have forced Ismailis and members of other groups to change their religious beliefs.

This action clearly violates freedom of belief and demonstrates that Taliban laws are not about religion but are tools of repression and the imposition of violence.

The Taliban spokesperson also described any criticism of the regulation as stemming from “religious ignorance” and accused social media users of creating “anxiety.”

Critics say this stance is a clear attempt to suppress any opposing voice and to legitimize legal violence against citizens.

Under this regulation, anyone who protests or demands freedom of expression is labeled a “rebel” and faces the risk of arrest, torture, and physical elimination.

This process has effectively placed Afghan society entirely under Taliban control and imposed fear and absolute obedience.
