Taliban Transfer Tanks from Takhar and Badakhshan to Kabul.
Local sources in Takhar province say that the Taliban are moving tanks, armored vehicles, and heavy military equipment from Khwaja Bahauddin district toward Kabul. According to these sources, the equipment was collected from a border police military center. It is being transported in military convoys to the capital, raising concerns about security developments in northern Afghanistan.
Sources said on Thursday, March 5, 2026, that this transfer occurs while the Taliban, after recent tensions and clashes with Pakistan, have deployed a large portion of their forces to border areas. With this transfer, some Taliban checkpoints and outposts in Takhar and other northern provinces are effectively vacated. Their presence in some areas has noticeably decreased.
Images shared by residents show the Taliban moving armored tanks and heavy military equipment. Sources also say that the transfer of weapons and military assets from Badakhshan province to Kabul has begun. Despite these large-scale movements, the Taliban have not provided an official explanation for moving equipment from northern provinces to the capital.
