The conflict over pasture in Takhar

The conflict over pasture in Takhar; the Taliban supported the nomads and suppressed the local people.

Local sources in Farkhar district of Takhar province have reported that the Taliban, continuing their discriminatory policies, have supported the Kuchis to usurp the pastures of the indigenous people. This action led to clashes between local residents and Taliban forces, resulting in the death of a 60-year-old man named Faiz Mohammad.

Eyewitnesses say that the Kuchis, with the support of local Taliban officials, especially “Mawlawi Shamsuddin”, the Kandahari-born Taliban district governor in Farkhar, and “Qari Naqib”, the police commander, have moved armed into the pastures of the Lajda people. After the locals protested, the Taliban not only did not listen to the complaints, but also shot at the protesters and threatened to arrest and suppress them.

Local residents say that these pastures have been the customary and traditional property of the Lajda people for generations. Now, however, the Taliban are effectively playing the role of land-grabbing forces for the Kuchis; A group that is seizing land from indigenous peoples in many areas of the northeast of the country, with the military support of the Taliban.

This is just one example of dozens of similar cases in the provinces of Badakhshan, Panjshir, Bamyan, Daikundi and Ghor, where the Taliban have repeatedly demolished houses and confiscated land in favor of the nomads they support. The indigenous people in these areas are mostly Tajiks, Uzbeks and Hazaras, which has strengthened the suspicion of systematic ethnicism and the gradual elimination of minorities by the Taliban.

In addition to the violent confrontations with protesters, local residents report that complaints remain unanswered and that Taliban forces have repeatedly threatened them. “When you raise your voice even to defend your ancestral land, you are either killed or disappeared. Where can you take refuge?”

The Taliban, who speak of “Islamic justice” in their slogans, not only violate justice, but have also become a party to ethnic and regional conflicts.
