The Pakistani army and Taliban headquarters provided different statistics on border casualties.

Following heavy clashes last night on the Afghan-Pakistani border, official sources from the two countries have provided different statistics on casualties.

The Pakistani army headquarters has announced that 23 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 21 military bases were temporarily captured in these battles.

According to the Pakistani army, about 200 Taliban and allied forces were killed and a number of others were injured during these clashes.

However, the Taliban government has rejected this figure and has announced the casualties of Afghan forces to be about 20 people.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban government, has said in response to this incident that 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 30 others were injured.

Independent sources have not yet confirmed the casualty figures and tensions in the border area are still ongoing
