US Congressman: The people of Afghanistan must rise up against the Taliban.
Tim Burchett, a Republican member of the US House of Representatives, has called on the people of Afghanistan to stand up against the Taliban and establish the government they want themselves.
He made these remarks in an interview with CNN, while also criticizing the continued US aid to Afghanistan. “I don’t even know why we should send another tradition to Afghanistan,” Burchett said.
The congressman also said that the United States is not the World Bank and that there are citizens in the United States who are facing poverty and hunger.
Expressing sympathy for the Afghan people, Burchett stressed that now is the time for the people to work on building a different, non-Taliban system.
He has previously criticized the sending of financial aid to the Taliban government and proposed a bill that would prevent the direct transfer of US money to the Taliban; this bill was later approved by the House of Representatives.
