The Taliban held a “beard seminar” at Panjshir University.
The Taliban’s information and culture department in Panjshir announced that the group had held a seminar at the university in the province entitled “The Place of the Beard in Islam.” The event was attended by a number of faculty and administrative staff.
Abdul Fattah Rahmani, the Taliban’s head of invitation and guidance at Panjshir University, called the beard “one of the Islamic rituals and traditions of the Prophet of Islam.
This is not the first time the Taliban have launched such programs. Earlier, in May this year, a similar seminar was held at Faryab University.
At the meeting, Taliban officials called shaving a beard “imitation of the enemies of Islam” and even claimed that it was medically harmful.
In conjunction with such seminars, the Taliban have arrested people in many provinces for cutting or shaving their beards.
The latest case was reported in Herat; Where a number of money changers and goldsmiths have been arrested for “drawing a beard” or “cutting it” and released on bail.
A few days ago, sources in Helmand reported that Taliban accountants had arrested dozens of shopkeepers for shaving their beards and hairstyles.
