Three Nights in Taliban Custody; Pressure on Former Military Personnel Continues.

Aref Amiri, a former Afghan military officer from Daikundi Province, stated that during a short trip to Herat, he was detained by the Taliban and held in their prison for three nights.

His detention has renewed concerns regarding the status of former security and defense personnel, who, despite the announcement of a “general amnesty,” remain at risk of arrest and harsh treatment.

According to Mr. Amiri, his sudden detention caused waves of worry and protest among friends, colleagues, and local residents.

He emphasized that after widespread public appeals and intervention by influential local figures, including Arbab Sahib Haji Ghoryani, he was conditionally released.

Amiri is now living with his family in Iran and has expressed gratitude for the support that led to his release.

This incident occurs amid repeated reports over the years of targeted arrests, suspicious disappearances, and even killings of former military personnel;

reports that have fostered fear and distrust among ex-forces. Many former personnel have noted that the announced amnesty has not practically guaranteed their safety.

Aref Amiri has promised to share further details about his detention and experiences in custody at a later time.
