
Tomb of an ancient poet set on fire in Zibak, Badakhshan.
Local sources in Badakhshan province say that the tomb of an Ismaili poet named “Diwan Shah” has been set on fire in the Zibak district of the province.
According to the sources, the incident took place on Tuesday evening in Khalkhan village. It is not yet clear who is behind the fire.
The sources added that Diwan Shah’s tomb had been vandalized and dug up several times last year.
Local residents say that the tomb is located in a historical place and every year on the 15th of Hut, the people of Zibak commemorate the anniversary of the poet’s death.
Diwan Shah died in 1103 AH.
Reports indicate that after the Taliban returned to power, cases of vandalism and digging up tombs of well-known figures in different parts of Afghanistan have increased.
