Turkic Women’s Movement: Four years of Taliban rule have brought women’s lives to the brink of collapse.
On the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the Taliban’s rule over the country, the Afghan Turkic Women’s Movement issued a statement warning that four years of severe oppression and repression have severely affected the lives and rights of women in the country.
The statement, which was released on Thursday, August 13, stated that women’s deprivations, widespread poverty, hunger and domestic violence have brought their daily lives to the brink of collapse.
The movement also emphasized that the Taliban’s justice and judicial institutions have ignored women’s complaints and many of them cannot even breathe easy in their homes.
Emphasizing that no government has legitimacy without the presence of women, the Turkic Women’s Movement called on the international community, human rights organizations and the media to draw their attention to the suffering and deprivations of Afghan women.
Despite the pressures and restrictions, the movement has emphasized its resilience and hope for the future, and has declared that it will be the voice of women who have been silenced for being women.
Meanwhile, Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Afghanistan, has also emphasized that the people of Afghanistan, and especially women, continue to resist despite the harsh and oppressive conditions of the Taliban, and that the current situation will not last; a different and better future awaits the people of this land.
