UN and UNICEF: Afghan Children’s Rights Under Threat.

Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, warned on World Children’s Day that children’s rights worldwide are under pressure, and crises and the heavy burdens of life threaten their future. He emphasized the urgent need to address children’s needs and protect their rights.

The UNICEF representative in Afghanistan also highlighted that rising poverty, ongoing conflicts, climate shocks, and sharp reductions in funding for essential services are putting Afghan children’s futures at risk.

The British Embassy in Afghanistan, in a message posted on social media platform X, stressed support for Afghan children, emphasizing their right to security, education, and hope for a brighter future.

Additionally, former President Hamid Karzai called on the Taliban to reopen schools. On this day, international organizations including UNICEF, the World Food Programme, and UN-Habitat reiterated their support for Afghan children and the importance of safeguarding their welfare and rights.

These warnings come as Afghan children continue to face educational restrictions, security threats, and health challenges.
