UN suspends cash transfer centers in Afghanistan.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced that it has temporarily suspended the operation of its cash transfer centers across Afghanistan, including Kabul, effective September 9.

The decision came after the Taliban blocked female staff from entering UN offices, effectively making it impossible for the centers to continue operating.

According to the agency, more than 50 percent of female returnees and more than 30 percent of female-headed households depend on cash transfers, and without the presence of female staff, it is impossible to collect information and provide services to this vulnerable group.

For this reason, the UN had asked the Taliban to lift the restrictions so that the aid process could continue.

Despite repeated requests, the Taliban have not agreed to lift these restrictions, which has led to the complete shutdown of cash transfer centers.

The United Nations has warned that the continuation of this situation will put the lives of thousands of needy families, especially women and children, in serious crisis.
