Unidentified Drones Flying Over Khost Province.
Local sources in Khost province report that unmanned aerial vehicles have been patrolling at very low altitudes over Khost city and parts of the province since Tuesday, January 27, 2026. This has caused serious concern among residents.
According to these sources, the drone flights began in the afternoon and continued late into the night. It remains unclear which country or entity owns these drones or the purpose of their low-altitude flights.
Residents say the drone activity has created fear and distrust, especially given that in the past, some houses in the province were targeted by airstrikes from Pakistan. Sources emphasize that the flights were not limited to the provincial center; drones were also observed over various districts.
In recent months, security concerns have increased across many Afghan provinces. Reports have previously documented drone flights over Panjshir, Ghazni, Khost, and Maidan Wardak provinces. In one instance, a drone crashed in Maidan Wardak province for reasons that remain unclear—events that have further heightened uncertainty and concern regarding the country’s security situation.
