Iran, Russia, China, and Pakistan Discuss Challenges in Afghanistan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mohammad Reza Bahrami, Director General of the South Asia Office of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, announced that on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization consultative meeting, members of the \u201cGroup 4\u201d including Iran, Pakistan, Russia, and China held talks on Afghanistan in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said that each of the countries expressed their views on the situation in Afghanistan and emphasized the need to help the country overcome existing challenges.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The meeting was held a day after a broader gathering of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states in Tajikistan;<\/strong><\/p>\n

A meeting whose main focus was also to examine the situation in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. At the meeting, the members emphasized increasing convergence towards Afghanistan and the need for political and economic coordination in interacting with this country.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although many Shanghai member states have extensive political and economic relations with the Taliban, only Russia has taken steps to formalize it so far.<\/strong><\/p>\n
