Zalmay Khalilzad visits Kabul again.
The Taliban’s foreign ministry confirmed that Zalmay Khalilzad had visited Kabul again and met with Taliban foreign minister Amir Khan Mottaki.
The meeting between the two sides was informal and focused on ways to expand bilateral relations between Afghanistan and the United States, the ministry said in a statement.
The meeting also discussed the political and economic situation in Afghanistan, international interaction with the Taliban and the humanitarian aid process, informed sources said.
Zalmay Khalilzad has been a key figure in the US-Taliban peace talks in recent years, and the Doha agreement was signed in 2020 with his mediation.
This is Khalilzad’s second visit to Kabul in recent months. Some say his presence may be part of informal efforts to resume dialogue between the Taliban and the international community, although US officials have not yet responded to the visit.
