Mohammad Zakaria Zamani, Boxer and Former Associate of the Suicide Unit, Appointed Head of Southern Futsal.

Mohammad Zakaria Zamani, a boxer with a reported history of cooperation with the Taliban’s “martyrdom (suicide) unit,” has been appointed as the head of the Futsal Committee for Afghanistan’s southern zone.

In a post on his Facebook page, Zamani thanked Farid Yusufzai, the deputy head of the futsal committee, and pledged to serve the development of futsal, especially in the southern region.

Sources indicate that Zamani has worked with the Taliban’s suicide unit for several years and has maintained close ties with senior Taliban figures.

His appointment has triggered strong reactions among athletes, futsal enthusiasts, and journalists, raising questions about the criteria for selecting a boxer for a managerial position in futsal.

The Afghanistan Football Federation has not released an official comment yet; however, Farid Yusufzai has confirmed Zamani’s appointment.

Concerns and criticism regarding the relevance of his background to futsal management continue to circulate.
