Iran’s Supreme Leader Threatens: “You Send a Warship? We Can Send It to the Bottom of the Sea.”
Simultaneously with the second round of Iran–U.S. nuclear negotiations in Geneva, Ali Khamenei issued an unusually stern and warning-laden message directed at the United States.
Referring to Washington’s military show of force, he stated that even the “strongest army in the world” could receive such a heavy blow that it would be unable to rise again. His remarks came in direct response to recent hardline positions taken by Donald Trump, who has once again placed pressure and threats on the table.
The Iranian leader pointed to the deployment of American warships to the region, emphasizing that while a warship is a dangerous instrument, “more dangerous than that is the weapon capable of sending it to the bottom of the sea.” This statement, widely interpreted as an explicit warning regarding U.S. military presence, has significantly affected the atmosphere of the negotiations.
Responding to Trump’s claim that the United States has failed to overthrow the Islamic Republic over the past 47 years, Khamenei declared: “You will not be able to do so either.”
In another part of his speech, he described any attempt to predetermine the outcome of the negotiations as “foolish,” stressing that Iran will not retreat from its nuclear rights under pressure or threats.
These remarks come as negotiations continue in Geneva under Omani mediation. Meanwhile, the United States has increased its military presence in the Middle East by deploying two aircraft carriers to the region — a move that has pushed tensions between the two countries into a new and potentially perilous phase.
