Fateh Warns of Conflict Without Local Autonomy for Darwaz.
Sources say Juma Khan Fateh, a dissatisfied Taliban commander in Badakhshan’s Darwaz region, has warned that conflict with the Taliban could begin unless the group recognizes local autonomy for Darwaz.
According to sources, Fateh told a Taliban delegation that officials appointed from Kandahar should not interfere in the administration, mining affairs, or security structure of the region.
He reportedly warned that continued disarmament efforts, arrests of local commanders, and transferring mines to Kandahar-linked individuals could lead to wider conflict in Badakhshan.
The reports come as the Taliban has increased its military presence in the province while continuing political efforts to pressure Fateh into backing down.
Sources say negotiations have so far failed, increasing concerns over possible armed confrontation.
