Inattention to infrastructure and weak management; 11 killed in a bloody traffic accident in Helmand.

At least 11 people have been killed and four others injured following a deadly traffic accident on the Kabul-Herat highway in Helmand province.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 16, in the Kariz area of Washir district when a 580 bus from Herat and a Flancoach from Kabul collided.

According to sources, the injured in the incident have been transferred to Taliban medical centers in the 215th Army Corps and Gereshk district, and their health conditions are reported to be serious.

The spokesman for the Taliban’s security command in Helmand stated that the cause of the incident was the carelessness of drivers; however, experts believe that the main factors behind such deadly incidents are the lack of standard infrastructure, lack of supervision over drivers, and the Taliban’s incompetence in transportation management.

After three years of Taliban rule, no effective measures have been taken to improve the condition of roads, monitor traffic violations, or regulate speed.

Dilapidated, narrow, and unmarked roads, along with the lack of trained traffic police, have resulted in dozens of citizens being killed in such accidents every week.

This incident once again highlights the weakness of the Taliban’s management in ensuring road safety and shows that people’s lives are still under serious threat due to the lack of planning and irresponsibility of officials.
