Taliban Embassy in Tehran Suspends Consular Services

Tehran – The Taliban Embassy in Iran has announced that it will suspend services related to the issuance and renewal of passports and legal documents such as marriage contracts, divorce certificates, birth certificates, bail bonds, and criminal records clearance certificates, effective Saturday, 2025 May 24, until further notice.

The decision was announced through an official statement on the social network X (formerly Twitter), in which Afghan refugees were asked to refrain from visiting the embassy until further notice.

The statement did not provide a reason for the suspension of services, but the move comes after previous media reports of heavy crowds and inappropriate behavior by embassy staff toward visitors.

The suspension of these services comes at a time when thousands of Afghan refugees in Iran rely on these services to renew their legal documents, and the suspension of the process may challenge the legal status of many of them.
